Taking It Off! Kick Off!

Taking It Off! Kick Off!

Let’s get started!

This post is my personal weight loss journey. My weight has always fluctuated and to be honest, I have never wanted to be super skinny. I like my curves and realistically, I am not made to be uber skinny and I am 100% ok with that.

After moving to Las Vegas three years ago, I feel like I put on the freshman 10…or 15 pounds that people gain when they go away to university, but I put them on in my late forties. I played with those extra pounds for years, I gained and lost the same ten pounds.

Then in October of 2018 we found out my dad was terminally ill; for the next 8 months I used food to cope with my feelings and comfort myself, as millions of people do.

Now I am ready to deal with my emotions; I have been crying a lot!! But I feel that I was numb for the first month and now I am starting to thaw. So I am going to give myself permission to feel all the feelings!

I will be following Weight Watchers, I have had success with this plan before and it works with my lifestyle and I am loving their app!!

I will share monthly updates, but will post them one after another. So I am writing in real time, but will be sharing them back to back for a week; so you won’t have to wait months to see my results. As you are reading this first post, I already know how this ends…ok, I don’t know yet, but I will by the time I start posting .

I anticipate missing Sugar the most, I am truly addicted!! Wish me luck!!

Made sure not to smile in my before shot, apparently you are supposed to look a little miserable in the before pic; pretty sure it’s a rule. Also went with the no makeup look…oh and my hair was dirty.

Shop Local This Christmas!!

Shop Local This Christmas!

With 7 days till Christmas, most of us are still looking for one or two….or seven gifts; hey no judgment here.

Why not skip the herds of people at the mall or Cosco and take a walk downtown? It doesn’t matter where you live, each city or town has locally owned shops that would love a share of your business.

I just moved back to Moncton two weeks ago and today I had lunch on Main Street with my friend, Stacey. After lunch, I braved the cold, apparently I am a weather wimp now, lol; and browsed the little shops that line Main Street.

There was certainly a buzz of life to the downtown area. As I walked down Main Street I noticed new restaurants and cafes that hadn’t been there before. I also noticed people, lots of people!!

I could feel my cheeks getting rosy and noticed that I was signing along with the Christmas music coming from Keating’s; even without snow it was starting to feel like Christmas.

2EF0F940-D158-4E04-96EE-3BFA1F1A690D

I popped into The Home Mercantile and was greeted with warm smiles from the staff. I am not certain what I was expecting? Maybe some tacky touristy tchotchkes?? But what I found made me feel like I was home.

Yes I realize, home is in the name, so obviously that’s the point. Maybe I am being a bit mushy and sentimental being back in my hometown? But it made me proud to be in a store filled with items that highlighted New Brunswick, Moncton and Canada.

This store is sassy and funny! Which reflects the people who live here. I bought one of these candles below; in addition to smelling really good, they made me laugh! The one I bought says: Calm the Fuck Down! Seriously, how could I not buy it???

I am a sucker for stationary and loved the mix of French and English cards with local regional  humor.

9C8B19B3-7DDA-485A-9FBC-514CCF8E432E

I seriously laughed out loud when I saw this very Maritime take on Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll; Sex, Drugs and Lobster Rolls!

3DD3DE91-A940-4936-A3CD-4BC98F9CDD3A

I bought a NB Home T-shirt that I will wear with pride and I may need to go back to get a tuque or a baseball hat? I’m short a few stocking stuffers and these would be perfect.

As I left with my new purchases, in my material shopping bag, of course; I thought what a great shopping experience.

I hadn’t been annoyed by slow walkers at the mall. I hadn’t experiences cart rage; you know when you’re at Cosco and someone decides to park their huge cart in the middle of the aisle while they chit chat away; man I hate that! Pull over for goodness sakes!!!

I left feeling relaxed and pleased with my sassy, sentimental purchases.

Tomorrow is the last Saturday before Christmas, the malls will be crazy!!! Call your friend and have them meet you downtown. Grab a bite to eat, pick up a hot chocolate at Tim’s and brows the small boutiques in your area.

My new t-shirt, my lipstick is extra bright to camouflage the scab on my nose, did it work?? lol, not sure? But it’s healing.

Merry Christmas & Happy Everything!

You’re so vain!

You’re so vain! Actually, I am so vain!

(Hey if you’re super squeamish, skip this post; I’ll be sharing some pictures of stitches and stuff.)

I am aware that the word vain has a negative connotation; it means into yourself, self absorbed…self this and self that, just plain selfish!

I would say that I can be vain, in the sense that I care about my appearance, but I don’t think I am selfish? I post a lot of pictures of myself on social media and in my blogs. I am certain some would call that vain? But to be honest I don’t really care. I try not to judge others and anyone who feels the need to judge me can suck it!! So there! Lol, ouff I am feeling feisty!!

Recently my vanity led me to make an appointment to see a dermatologist for the first time. I had this little, super little, skin colored thing on the bridge of my nose that I wanted removed. I’m certain no one else noticed it, but I knew it was there and I wanted it gone!

Well it turns out that that little thing was cancerous! Did my vanity save my life? Well that maybe a bit dramatic? But did it save my nose? Maybe??

You can see it in this pic.

EF0DE54D-E7A3-4794-9EDA-25EBE99A6DE6

I had been meaning to make an appointment for the past year to get checked, but I just kept forgetting about it. Then before I moved back to Canada from Las Vegas I finally made an appointment.

I called on a Thursday and had an appointment the following Friday! My fellow Canadians will be able to relate to my shock and excitement of getting in to see a dermatologist that quickly.

After a full body exam the doctor removed a few things; 5 things to be exact. And by removed, I mean he used what looked like a razor blade to cut them off. He froze the spots so it didn’t hurt.

I went home with my new wounds. They were annoying, but not painful. I would need to return in a few weeks for a follow up and  to get the results of my biopsies; they have to test anything that they cut off your body apparently.

By the following day the cut on my nose was red, but was starting to scab over. I felt a little self conscious, but I went about my normal daily routine.

Within a week I was all healed up and on the go; the following week I was back at the clinic  for my results.

The doctor told me that he had good news and not so good news, mmmm, this didn’t sound promising. Turns out 4 of my samples were fine, but one came back cancerous. This isn’t what I was expecting on this sunny Friday afternoon.

The next thing I knew, the doctor and I were looking at a picture of the different skin layers and he was explaining what the next step would include. To be honest, I could hear him talking, but I only have a vague recollection of what he said.

I do remember asking him if it was pre-cancerous? I must not have heard him correctly the first time? Turns out I had and it was not pre.

I left the clinic and called a friend who asked me a bunch of questions that I couldn’t answer. I remembered him saying it was the kind that moved very slowly  and that they would take skin off my nose, test it onsite and if they got it all, they would stitch me up. But if there were still cancerous cells, they would dig deeper.

I also remembered him saying that I would have stitches for a week to 10 days. The following day I called back and asked for the name of whatever it was that I had so I could google it.

It was nasal cell carcinoma, which is super common for caucasiens. I was happy that my caucasien ass and nose were getting ready to move from the desert back to the Arctic where I/they belonged. Yes, I’m fully aware that people in Canada get skin cancer, but at that moment, I felt like this place was inhospitable to my pasty white Canadian skin!!

The day of my procedure my friend Staci game with me for moral support, thank you Staci!!!

I waited maybe 15 min before my turn. I was on a table and the doctor was freezing my nose.  I thought it would be similar to going to the dentist, they prick you with a few needles and you wait for it to kick in? Nope, it wasn’t like that; whatever he used froze me instantly. It was so fast that it took me a minute to figure out that he had already started doing his thing and then it was over. I swear it took less than 3 min from start to finish.

221F20C4-CB19-4E63-A042-B6B8D62EAF0C

Oh I forgot something, when I arrived and was sitting there waiting for my turn, I noticed that everyone who walked out had huge bandages. I worried thinking, man why does everyone look like they’ve had large chunks of their faces chopped off?

I quickly found out why; once done phase one they sent you back to the waiting area while they tested your, well your flesh I guess, lol. If all was clear you would then go back in to get stitched up.

Within 20 min, I was back on the table getting stitched up. I was all clear! Yay!

Since everything had gone so fast and well, I imagined that I would have a small clean cut. He kept telling me everything looked good and it would heal well.

At one point I asked him how many stitches he was giving me, because it was taking a long time. He said there were a few underneath that would dissolve on their own and some on top that would need to be removed…ok..

I was relieved when he said he was finished and his assistant would clean me up and put a smaller bandage. As she was prepping, I snapped a quick selfie and OMG!!

It looked like I’d been hit between the eyes with a hockey stick. Ugh this had just taken a shitty turn, my poor nose!

19050CBA-F5A9-46A4-9BE5-C9C254154631

I sent this pic to my mom and she said I looked sad and a little high. I think a little high would have helped!! She then said you look like a hockey player…see, told you!!!

They sent me home with a small bandage that would come off the next day. As my face started to thaw and throb, I thought this would be a great time to start my very own pity party for one.

Yes, I realize that I am fortunate that it was caught early and that I will heal and hopefully not have a huge scar. And yes I realize that others have much worse life threatening health issues and I’m being a whiny baby, bla, bla, bla!! But at that moment I just wanted to be pitiful! I am vain, remember that part from the beginning of my story?

I eventually fell asleep and woke up to find my bandage hanging off the side of my nose. I must say that I did wake up with a better attitude. I decided that instead of hiding myself away, I would go out there and own this big gash on my nose. And by go out there, I meant that I would be working from home for the next three days until I’d be forced into the public to fly back to Canada, lol.

DE067F40-EB39-4FCD-963A-4041A6F919F0

Trying to be positive, I  focused on how well the rest of my skin looked, sans makeup.

I mustered up the energy to put on some lip gloss before heading out to the grocery store. My next stop was to the pharmacy so that the pharmacist could look at me and tell me it looked the way it was supposed to look. That night I went out to eat with one of my friends; ok I did pick a restaurant that I knew wouldn’t be busy, but I was still out.

Here is some advice for anyone dealing with face stitches; stay away from large magnifying mirrors the day after your procedure? Trust me you don’t need to see all of that magnified!! It’s not good for your spirit, sadly, I only realized this after it was too late.

Before I continue to whine, can we take a quick  look at the two pics below?

599313EF-2A05-4070-89D4-B54992F0A350

The photo on the right is Sunday night and the one on the left is Tuesday afternoon. Please feel free to stop reading at any point if you think I am making a big deal out of nothing. Side note, it must be nice to be perfect without a tinge of vanity, good for you!! Lol, sorry, moving on.

Recovery Day 2

I was expecting my movers first thing that morning, so I brushed my teeth, washed my wound and put my baseball cap on because my hair was dirty. I realize that my vanity seems to be wayning, because I couldn’t care less what the hell I look like. I dig through my purse to find my lipgloss and then think, fu&$ it!!

The movers start boxing up and loading all my shoes on the truck, including the sneakers that I had set aside to wear for the next two days.  I suddenly have two options, pink fuzzy slippers or winter boots; fuzzy slippers it is!

As I am walking through Whole Foods in my slippers looking like I’ve been beat up, I feel that I’ve hit an all time  personal low; and I don’t even care. I fear that I’m one step away from Walmart in my pajamas? Slippers in Whole Foods is certainly the gateway to Walmart in pajamas??

268958F9-5432-4B96-A06F-907289F197DF

At least my nose has stopped bleeding and leaking gross stuff. I see people that I know and they tell me it’s not as bad as they thought it would be; they are obviously big fat liars!! My pity party had been replaced by annoyance and anger.

6CD9E4F2-6932-4B19-8CCD-D68866582954

I am getting my hair done tomorrow, clean hair should help camouflage what looks like a bloody caterpillar on my face.

Recovery Day 3

I woke up this morning to an extra special treat, my eyes are starting to bruise, yay me!!

9A24A8E8-655A-4A75-B9B2-9A7D16EAB407

Trying real hard to stay positive the only thing I can come up with is that the yellow ish coloring does make my blue eyes pop; so there’s that. I did make an effort and put on a bit of eyeliner and gloss. I am on my way to get my hair done.

My hairdresser always makes me feel awesome! I needed this little pick me up. Hey never underestimate the power of a fresh color and blow out!

7F4EA243-778F-49AD-8F97-80DB7C6856DE

My wound is very red today, I am hoping that’s a good sign?? It’s my last day in Las Vegas, I fly out in the morning.

Recovery Day 4

No hiding today I will be flying all day. Before leaving for the airport I consider extra red lipstick, but that may just draw more attention?

9AA13F59-2C1B-4DB8-95CF-7B8F525962F9

I ham it up a bit afted being dropped off at the airport. I almost forgot what I looked like, until I see the picture, but it’s fine. Canada here I come! Side note for all the men out there, if a woman says fine, it’s sooooo not fine.

Recovery Day 5

Someone asked me if I got a nose job? I tell them that I’m pretty sure that when you get a nose job they don’t cut the top of your nose! Some people are dumb!! The angry stage has apparently arrived.

Recovery Day 6 & 7

Blah! Over it!!

Recovery Day 8

Recovery Day 9

The doctor originally told me the stitches would need to stay on for 7 to 10 days, it’s 9 days, they need to come off!!

I feel like the stitches are pulling my skin. I can’t wash my face or put face cream on without that pulling feeling. It’s becoming really uncomfortable.

I have a cocktail party tonight and things planned for the weekend. If these stitches don’t come off I may hurt someone…I am not kidding, things could get ugly.

I was able to get in to see my doctor who tells me I need an appointment to get into the clinic at the hospital where they take out stitches. I’m on the verge of crying when she says, let me call and see if they can take you?

She comes back and says, go now!!! She said tomorrow they have 165 appointments; it’s almost 2pm and it closes at 3, so off I go!!

Thank you Sherrie at Clinic C and nurse Heather who took my stitches out!! They took me right away; I was in and out within 15 min.

I instantly feel better!!

Recovery Day 10

Everything seems to be flattening out, still red, but getting better. Because everything was swollen, my skin seems to be peeling a bit.

Recovery Day 11

I’m finally feeling like people aren’t just staring at my nose; and I’m thankful that I seem to be healing well. I figure that in another week I’ll be pretty well all healed up!

91955B9A-09D9-4FE6-92A1-7228877CF020

The drama seems to be over! Again, I am aware that in the grand scheme of things, this was a very minor health scare. And I am super fortunate that it was taken care of early and quickly.

During a pep talk from one of my friends, which I appreciated her effort. I felt the need to reminded her that whenever she has a pimple on her face it ruins her day and sometimes her week. So maybe I’m not the only one who is vain? I think we all are? Maybe vain isn’t the right word? Maybe it’s proud?

Whatever it is, I think it’s human nature to want to look your best and that even if you think you’re a relatively confident person, you aren’t immune to bouts of self doubt.

I hope that this post motivates you to make an appointment for your yearly check up! Especially if it’s been a few years! My little spot could have been a lot worse had I put off getting it checked. Who knows what my nose would have looked like had I waited a few years??

Thanks for reading!!

Time for a quickie?

Time for a quickie?

This post is for my oui-liette subscribers, first of all THANK YOU!! I so appreciate that you took the time to sign up for my blog and that you are faithful readers.

In the next few weeks I will be sharing a post called, You’re So Vain. Which is really, I’m So Vain, but You’re sounds better, lol.

I’ve had a skin cancer scare, I am fine, but I do look like I’ve been in a bar fight; and in my fake bar fight, I won of course, lol.

So I just wanted to give you a heads up, if you are at all squeamish, you may want to skip it, as I will be sharing a few pics that show what I looked like right after my procedure. Which really isn’t that bad, but I have a friend who can’t even listen to someone talk about getting stitches or blood without almost passing out, lol. I want to be sensitive to “those” kind of people.

If I am being honest, my first instinct is to hide away and resurface when I am all healed up, but that’s not real life, blah!!! Ugh!!! Lol.

The next thing that I wanted to share is that if you read my posts directly from your emails, this is what you see:

C3392572-F8DA-432A-A980-DCC8AB3FB1CB

Which is perfectly fine, but if you click on the title of the post, it will bring you to my site, which has a few extra pics.

7065FDEA-4E36-4DAC-AF73-B0FEE71E86D8

You will see my header, which changes by the season and my feature image.

And finally, this week I am moving my life back to Canada! I’ve been in Las Vegas for the past three and a half years and it’s time to go back. I will be sharing more posts about my little corner of the world, which is so lovely.

My little blog started off with a bang!! I had great momentum and then my father got sick and passed away. During that time, my blog kept me sane and kept my mind busy; I was pumping out content regularly.

For the past few months I’ve been less consistent; I guess I’ve been mourning and will be for a long time to come. But! The passing of my dad has only reinforced the theme of my blog which is, life is short, live it!!

That’s how my father lived his life and that’s how he would want me to live mine. So everyday, I get my butt out of bed and tell myself, today will be a good day damn it!

Full disclosure, it doesn’t always work, but that’s ok, at least I am trying.

My last, last thing, is that I’ve been on a weight loss journey and will be posting my results in the new year. You may have noticed my cheeks getting a bit slimmer, lol?

I decided that food had been helping me cope with what was happening in my life. Like millions of people out there I was/am an emotional eater. Which was obviously what I needed to do I guess, because I survived without taking a nervous breakdown, so yay me! In June, I decided that I was ready to start using other copping mechanisms, so stay tuned for that.

There you have it, you’re all caught up on my stuff! With the holidays creeping up on us, make certain to get your butt out of bed every morning and tell yourselves that it’s going to be a good day damn it!!! 😬

Merci, talk soon, muah!

A Dreamy Bedroom Makeover

A Dreamy Bedroom Makeover

One of my passions is decorating; if I wasn’t an events planner, I would definitely be an interior decorator!

2029CF08-8F87-4784-BB73-DDD46AA04A17

A few years ago I redecorated my dad’s TV room. I found an old dresser and painted it for his paperwork and stuff. I re-arranged the pictures my mom had in this room and even though it wasn’t completely my style, it was a nice room; apparently when you decorate other peoples rooms, it’s not all about you?? For instance, if it was my room, I wouldn’t have hung a large black and white picture of my brother and I circa 1987, lol.

When I moved away, my parents bought me a single bed for when I visited; so this room became a TV room/guest bedroom. That black and white picture of my bro and I hung over my single bed; I am not going to lie, it was a bit unsettling waking up to that every day.

C9F9BFFB-C4F4-45F4-BE5E-B469D159710D
Ok, maybe it’s not that bad, but it is 100% going in the closet.

Then my dad got sick and as his illness progressed, we added more and more medical stuff to this room. Soooo…this is getting a bit dark, but please stay with me; let’s just say that by the time he passed this room didn’t feel warm and inviting.

I decided that I needed a project and staying busy and doing something that I loved would be a great distraction. I was going to convert this room into a bedroom that felt like a posh hotel room for when I visited. And if there’s something that I know a lot about, it’s the inside of hotel rooms.

DF88C593-2994-4759-AAE5-8C359AA96FF1

Ok so these before pictures are bad. It looks like a tornado blew through it and  to be honest that’s exactly what happened by the time everything was said and done.

The first thing I did was to move the single bed, it was in the corner next to my dad’s chair, and I had my brother mount the TV on the wall. As you can see by the mess, it was less than functional. There was no room for me to unpack when I was in town, so  I lived out of my suitcase, which, when open, took up half the room. The renovated room will have room for all my stuff!!

I needed inspiration and I found it! This is the vibe I am hoping to channel. I bet you are shocked, by this PINK headboard?? Lol, fun fact, my place in Vegas really doesn’t have any pink…well maybe a pillow or two? So this is a great place to pink it up!!

0AFC18BE-1586-43FA-BA5C-C09F2E26DDC5

I love this color pallet and I think that although the key focal point is a deep pink, it’s still feels very sophisticated..right?

Now let’s be mindful that I don’t live here and that this makeover was done on a budget.

To get started I went to the local Moncton fabric store and omg!! I found the absolute perfect hot pink fabric! I hired my brother and sister in law to make the headboard. As I left town, I told them to please have it done by the time I rolled back into town; yup, I am a bit bossy, it’s part of my charm.

In Vegas, I bought a white duvet cover and gray curtains and lugged them cross continent on my next trip back.

My next find was awesome! I decided that I needed a big picture, like, big, big! I have about 6’ between the dresser, mounted TV and the closet. I wanted something oversized for that spot. I thought it would take me forever to find it,  but my very next trip to Homesense I found it. I instantly knew this was it!!!

It has some pink, yellow, red, orange and green. I loovvvve it! You can’t appreciate this size in this pic, you will further down.

FF21FF3B-6A9D-4974-959C-ADA5C5B7E05A

My view on finding art for your space is that it takes time, travel and patience; what I mean is that you can’t go to a store and buy art for all your walls in one shot. You have to find things that speak to you. I got lucky with this piece, but I will have a few blank spots in my room until I find the right pieces for the rest of the room.

My next cool find was a light fixture, it looks like a birds nest, which is fitting since my parents live on the third floor and have a view of the tree filled courtyard. It kinda feels like they live in a three house lol.

46929E8A-7345-4EBB-B996-D448DA934D36

This was a steal of a deal at $49!! It looks even prettier at night when lit. Sometimes you need to give weird looking things a chance, lol. I am sure that some saw this in the store and though…nah! But, I knew that it would be pretty.

I bought a few small baskets and accessories, everything else was here already.

So it will be a bit of a work in progress, which is fine; again take your time to find pieces you love, don’t just rush and get stuff to fill spaces, love them! Oh and everything doesn’t need to be brand new. My dresser and side table were second hand finds.

So here is what I have so far!

This was the back of the door, which  was wastes space. My mom had her TV trays tucked behind the door; yes she still uses TV trays! Lol, she also had a folding chair and I had some of my crap.

09D556F0-C778-4975-8E38-2F9F5B6C92A1

I decided to make this area into a makeup/hair area. My mom had the mirror in another room, I moved it; she thought I was nuts when I hung it behind the door, lol. I found a glass top console that fit perfectly and baskets for my makeup and stuff. It’s also a great place to line up my shoes. This small nook originally had no purpose, now it does.

4CC94134-7A91-489D-A31E-42806AC7DD48

My dad had the TV on a stand on another little desk, I got rid of that and moved the dresser, it was originally on the opposite wall.

72CE1AF2-8493-4617-AC1E-9AE98A3CE63A

We tidied up the TV cables…ok, by we, I mean, not me, lol, but I did add a few cute accessories. I love the gray basket with the white pompons, I got two at HomeSense.

26835AB4-9C32-4DD6-8AA4-C418644D4804

So here is my headboard; I took these pictures at night, my brother and I hung it the night before I had to leave town, so it was a bit of a rush. The color is a pinkish cranberry, I know cranberries are red, but imagine them pink and that’s the color in the natural light.

31028F6A-2917-4C86-ADD4-AFE93B7F5946

Ok, I am adding the picture below because it shows it’s pinkishness in all its glory!!

24BB449D-8088-4D58-8757-D8F0390E2693

I had bought huge white Euro Shams for the bed, but once I got them in the room, they didn’t work, so they went back. I will shop some sales back in Vegas for the perfect shams and accent pillows; I would love to find something in a darker gray linen.

The pictures below show the size of my colorful flower picture, it’s huge! Now is the scale too big for the room? Some would say yes, but I would say, no!

It makes me happy and it’s my room…so there; rules are made to be broken or bent just a little. If you like something and it makes you happy, that’s all that matters.

I need to find something for the space to the right of dresser and TV. I did see a beautiful lamp, but I hesitated and it was gone by the time I decided that it would be perfect. But I will find something fabulous, it may just take a bit of time.

I also need a bright pillow for my chair, again that will come.

C21D8D9D-AAAA-4E19-87A3-6559328A46F6

Sooooo I got to sleep in my finished Moncton bedroom for exactly one night before I had to fly out again. But I’ll be back!

So what do you think? What’s your favorite new thing??

Thanks for reading! I know my blog topics are all over the map.

Have a great week!

Muah!

When I am not sitting at my desk in the office; I am in an airport or scrunched in an airplane seat; It can be stifling. My remedy is to go out and get some fresh air.

There is something about being outside that calms me; wether it’s going for a walk in the desert or snowshoeing in the forest, being outside centers me and quiets the voices in my head…you guys have those little voices too right??

Work It Out!

To prep for this post, I did an informal poll and a lot of you mentioned that working out helps keep you sane…I don’t get it, but whatever, lol, kidding ish.

Nicole, one is my very best cousins, she says that her workouts keep her present and in control; and that feeling of accomplishment afterwards is a big win!

Feel the Rhythm of the Beat!

One of my friends is living a modern version of The Brady Bunch, between her and her boyfriend, they have 6 kids!!! One of her passions is dancing. On Sunday’s she cranks the tunes and dances in her kitchen while she does her meal prep for the week.

I have another friend who got so tired of seeing her kids playing video games, that she turns the games off and makes them dance with her. At first they rolled their eyes, but now they look forward to it. They learn the newest dance moves together, she’s now an expert flosser.

Learn Something New

Another friend in a house with three teenagers has decided to learn how to play guitar; it’s something she has wanted to do for years. She has paid for guitar, piano and drum lessons for her kids; now she is finally taking the time and focusing on learning how to play.

Shhhh!!

In my informal poll, many have said that they just need a bit of quiet time by themselves. With the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, I can relate to this one.

Find some time and a quiet corner to read. Fill up your tub and take a warm bath or get in your car and go for a little drive…alone; being alone with your thoughts can help keep you grounded.

How do you chill and re-charge? Maybe by reading my Sunday blog posts??? Lol

Thanks for reading! Have a great week! Be kind to yourselves.

Blogging

Blogging, a Blog About a Blog.

I am working on a really fun blog post, but it’s not ready to be posted yet. So in the meantime, I thought I would share a bit of what goes on behind the scenes and what my blogging process is.

Not that anyone has ever asked me to share my process, but hey if I waited for invitations before doing stuff, I’d be pretty bored.

Blog

Everything I’ve read about blogging says that you should have a content calendar and follow it. I don’t really do that. I do list things out when I have lots of ideas, like leading up to Halloween and Christmas.

But some months, when I am not traveling, I just free ball it and wait for ideas to pop up. I try to post every Sunday. This week, I had nothing until Wednesday night. And then I came up with a really fun idea, that will be ready to share in a few weeks. But that didn’t help me for this weeks post. I had nothing, until I had the brilliant idea to blog about blogging, so here we are…you’re welcome, lol.

Inspiration

I am a visual person, so I often get blog ideas from photos. I also tend to come up with my best ideas late at night when I can’t sleep. For a morning person, I actually do my best writing late at night in bed.

I may start posting mini posts on Wednesday’s?  And I would like to share more videos; and there is no time like the present. Someone asked me to post more pictures of my place here in Vegas, so here you go.

For those who don’t know me personally, I’ll share that the past 6 months have been rough for my family and I. My father is dying, there, I said it, it’s out there. It’s something that we are preparing ourselves for. It’s unbelievable how something that seems unimaginable, becomes something that you learn to accept.

Wow! That took a dark turn! Lol, I am sorry, I wanted to share that because but I wanted you all to know that my little blog has been a life saver for me these past few months. It has given me something creative to do and it has kept my mind busy.

Sharing can be scary

My two most popular posts were also the two posts that I was the most nervous to publish.

My second oui-liette blog post ever, “New Brunswick, You’re Going to Hate It”, got close to 50,000 views; I am pretty sure that was my 15 minutes of fame and now I am a has been, lol.  But I think it’s better to be a has been than a never have been…right?

Before posting, I was worried that people wouldn’t get the tongue and cheekiness of it. But they did! And I was shocked by how people connected with it!

Fun Fact the feature image of this post was taking while tubing down the Miramichi River, but my blurb about how much people would hate tubing while watching bald eagles flying overhead, was cut out, because the post was getting too long.

The other post that I was afraid that no one would read was Senior Living. It was supposed to be funny, but it didn’t turn out that way. I considered deleting it because it wasn’t sassy or fun, but I guess life isn’t always sassy and fun. It’s harder to share real feelings than hints on how to throw a fabulous party.

Thanks for reading both the light and fluffy posts and the more serious ones. I love and appreciate all your comments, please keep them coming.

Ok changing the tone a bit, but this also falls in the scary category. Guess what happens when thousands of people read your posts? You get lots of creepy messages from men! All the comments I’ve gotten directly on my blog have been great and respectful, both from men and woman, thank you! But man I have gotten some creepy messages on Facebook messager, ugh! Thankfully I know how to use the block button.

Fun Facts

99.9% of the photos in my blogs are photos that I’ve taken;  I am pretty proud of that. A lot of bloggers use stock photographs; not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Fun Fact, here’s where the blogging magic happens, in my bed!

I took photography in University for two years. I have a fancy camera that I never use; most of my pics are taken on my phone. I am not a great technician, but I think I have an eye for styling and knowing what will look cool.

My fancy photo shoot pics are taken by my friends Barney or Sean; a few were taken by my nephew Jack. If I use someone else’s photo, I will give them a shout out.

Some people have made comments like; “oh you take a lot of pictures of yourself”. To that I say, yes, yes I do. I really enjoy the process of coming up with a creative idea and then making it happen. It’s not as easy as it looks, if it was, their profile pictures would be much better…oh snap!!

This one below is for those people, I was going for an old Hollywood feel. Not sure if I like the black and white or the color better? What do you think?

The stronger or interesting the feature image, the more views the post will get. I think my marketing background has certainly helped me  make my little blog look fancy.

I don’t consider myself a great writer. I just try to write the way I speak. I am fairly certain, I have way too many “lol’s”, in my posts, but what are you gonna do?

I also make words up, on purpose. Example, in last week’s post, I wrote that I was “patio lantering my way down Main St”. I know that lantering is not a real word, but I don’t really care, “lol”.

Thank You Next!

So what’s next? As mentioned above, I have an interesting post coming up. The post is pretty much written, I just need a few cool pictures so I have a fun photo shoot planned for this week. It could be really cool or an awesome disaster; I will share either way.

I am also working on another fun project. My part is done, but others are working on finishing it. I hope to have it back in my hands to share around the end of June ish.

On the travel front, I have a huge work event here in Las Vegas soon. Then in June and July I will be going to Edmonton, Moncton then back to Vegas; then Tulsa Oklahoma, Moncton and back to  Vegas for a bit.

I am also going to start submitting some of my blog posts to different publications and sites to see if they get picked up; hey the worst thing they can say is no right? I am also learning how to better partner with companies.

So this was a different kind of post, did you like it? lol

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there and thinking of all the people who have lost their moms. If anyone runs into my mom tomorrow, please give her a hug for me!
